Or was it that they were standing up? Anyway they lost their ability to tackle, and their pursuit, which was awesome in the first half, became a step slow, and the linebackers weren’t coming up to fill when the defensive line gave up ground on the line of scrimmage. So, what were the Patriots doing? Their defense wasn’t standing up. And, as mentioned, they popped the Patriots’ balloon when they took the lead 42-40. They put together the longest scoring drive of the game – 91 yards. They proceeded to take control of the line of scrimmage in the second half. They launched most of their attack on the ground, starting when they recovered a Patriot fumble in the third quarter. From 28-8 they earned their first lead in the game going up 42-40 with 3:44 remaining on the clock. In the second half the Warbirds proved that the score doesn’t really mean anything. But if you have learned anything about scoreboards it would be don’t let one influence or convince you of anything when the clock still has numbers on it other than 0.00. The home team was sitting pretty good with a 20-point lead and the impression that the Warbirds weren’t able to put much together offensively or defensively. Wyndmere-Lidgerwood scored at 8:34 of the second quarter when a wide receiver slipped past a Patriot cornerback, scampering down the sideline on a 69-yard touchdown reception. The Warbirds tried to convert a fourth down into a first with the ball on the Patriots’ 27-yard line later in the first quarter, their only real threat, but the Pats held. They began their dominance with a 14-0 lead after six minutes played in the first quarter, scoring on their first possession. To start, though, MPCG owned the first half. The way things went in the second half, with the two teams scoring one after the other, at least one side, the Patriots, were glad the game clock finally ran out of time. And we saw plenty of it, with the agony and ecstasy all over again! 28 on Jerome Berg Field at Mayville State University. May-Port CG Patriots hosted the Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds on Aug.
